A Royal Affair

29 Apr
Even though I am already sick of the Royal Wedding (read: media overload) I feel it is a piece of history I must watch. I will be on vacation in St. John during the big day so may have to rely on DVR. This will work in my favor since I plan on pausing every close-up to meticulously inspect each outfit. Gorgeous dresses, shiny jewelry, beautiful bags, large diamonds, and expensive shoes will have me drooling. Had I been so lucky to have received a coveted invitation you can rest assured I would have maxed out all my credit cards to arrive in style. However, I have a feeling my outfit of choice is not the appropriate attire to wear to such an occasion, but in my imaginary world, I can wear anything.

Today I am leaving for a much needed family vacation to St. John. I can’t wait to feel the sun on my face and sand between my toes.  I will be back to reality on May 3rd and will be sure to share my adventures! While I am away, I have pre-scheduled some posts to continue sharing all that I love.

La Bella Vita

27 Apr

A few days ago I had a craving for a fresh, rich and delicious pasta dish. Not sure exactly what I wanted, I went to the grocery store and browsed around until something sparked my interest. I decided on fresh cherry tomatoes, fresh brocollini, Mozzarella, Italian sausage, penne, and pesto. Pesto is one of my favorite “sauces” especially home-made. The grocery store near my parents house sells a local homemade version that is delicious and I had to take the opportunity to use it. I didn’t use a real recipe but here is what I did:

1 lb of Penne Pasta
1 lb of Sweet Italian sausage, casings removed
1 bunch of Brocollini
1 bunch of Cherry Tomatoes
6 oz. of Pesto
1/3 of a ball of fresh Mozzarella, cut into small pieces
Salt
Pepper
High quality olive oil

Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees. Use two separate baking sheets (feel free to use one) and line one with halved cherry tomatoes and one with the brocollini. Sprinkle the tomatoes and brocollini with olive oil, salt, and pepper and place in the oven for 15-20 minutes until roasted. While vegetables are roasting, cook the sausage in a frying pan until fully cooked. Cook pasta and drain. Once everything is cooked and ready, combine all with pesto, add cheese and serve! It was very delicious and made me excited for all of the fresh vegetables that come with summer!

Make a Statement

26 Apr

Until recently I never looked twice at costume jewelry or statement pieces. I wore my usual stack (Tiffany and co. bangle, Cape Cod Bracelet, Wish bracelet a friend bought me in brazil, my watch) a simple Dogeared necklace, and rotated between a few pairs of earings. I sleep with these pieces on, shower with them on (minus the watch) and never take them off. Well, I have begun to embrace statement pieces. Large necklaces, earings, rings, bracelets, watches, I can’t get enough, always layering them with my standard jewelry. This has allowed me to discover new designers and there is one I just have to share, Tom Binns. An amazing jewelry company that creates beautiful statement pieces that I must have. Most of the pieces remind me of my grandmother’s vintage jewelry I used to play “jewelry Store” with when I was younger. I would pair these pieces with either a LBD or a plain T and jeans keeping the focus on the amazing jewelry.

I can’t get over how all these pieces resemble my grandmother’s old jewelry. Minus the neon of course.

BabyCakes

25 Apr

I am at true believer that any dessert can be made tastier with sprinkles on it (hence my blog name) and cupcakes are no exception. They come in an infinite combination of flavors and I am always willing to try something new. Recently we had Babycakes delivered to my work and I couldn’t have been more excited (cupcakes at work? okay!). Little did I know I was about to have THE best cupcake of my life. The weird thing was it was a simple vanilla cupcake with vanilla frosting and beautiful little sprinkles. It was perfect in every way and more delicious than I ever anticipated. If you are ever in the Boston area you MUST try these. We have even been making up “reasons” to order them to work, they are that good.

That is the vanilla cupcake that has quickly become my favorite!

Who doesn’t love the combination of peanut butter and chocolate?

My stomach is growling.

This is going to be the next flavor I try.

You must head over to their website and check out all the amazing flavors and be sure to stop by the storefront if you are ever in the neighborhood!

What I Wore

21 Apr

Wednesday 4-20-11

I am waiting patiently for spring to be here. I am ready to pull out all my bright, flowerly, summer clothing and put away all my dark, dreary, winter clothing. Then we get days like today. It’s rainy and cold and my hair is not listening to me. I want to wear leggings and a huge sweatshirt and cuddle up on the coach with Starbucks and browse though the DVR. Instead I have work. I find it difficult to get dressed on these days. I can’t wear anything too summery or wintery (made up words? yes) and I also have to be prepared for the extra cold office since the A/C is on.

“Yo, I’ll tell you what I want, what I really really want”

20 Apr

When I was young I lived in L.L. Bean clothing. It was always so exciting to circle all the new clothes I wanted in the magazine and see them magically appear a few days later. I loved how I could get matching leggings, jumper, shirt, shoes, socks, and scrunchie (yes, scrunchie). I looked good. Needless to say this way of dressing can be deemed juvenile and didn’t translate well as I grew older and thus grew out of L.L. Bean. I was in an in-between age, not young enough for the kid’s line and most definitely not old enough for their adult line. Until now.  The company released their “Signature” line and I am in love. If they were trying to target an untapped audience of 20-something yuppies, they achieved their goal. I could literally buy every single piece of the line. Since that option is just not in the budget right now,  I must pick and choose my favorite looks. I put a few of my ideal outfits together to better visualize exactly what I need (read: want).

“Oh darling don’t you ever grow up”

19 Apr

Whenever I go home to my parent’s house I always feel nostalgic. I long for foods, experiences, and routines from when I was young. This past weekend, while home, I had a craving to make Rice Krispie treats. I used this recipe here but added one box of instant vanilla pudding mix to give it a little different flavor. Since Easter is just around the corner I added some festive sprinkles too!

My mom had the idea to spray tin foil with cooking spray to pack the Rice Krispies into the tray without sticking.

Things that make me happy today:

1. Holding on to my youth

2. Mani, pedi’s

“Just Run Away”

18 Apr

Today is a big day for Boston. The population of the city is going to drastically increase and more than half the city is going to be shut down. A majority of companies are taking today off (not mine, boo.) all because today is the Boston Marathon. I am not sure whether I could ever mentally run 26.2 miles so I commend anyone who has that ability, self motivation, and determination. I recently began running again, slowly, and every day my run becomes just a little bit easier. While I am at work today (again, boo) I will be thinking about all the amazing people running and mentally congratulating every single one of them. It will also give me motivation not to skip a day of running this week. If they can run 26.2 miles in one day, I certainly should be able to run 1.5 miles every day of the week.

The Finish line. They repaint it every year right before the big day. I can only image the feeling when crossing over this baby!

While I am certainly not an experienced runner, it doesn’t mean I don’t like to dress the part:

1. Lululemon no slip headband.

2. Gap gfast leggings. I’m obsessed with these for exercising and everyday wearing.

3. Lululemon sweatshirt.

4. Camelback water bottle. Best water bottle I have ever purchased.

5. Ipod Touch. I have to listen to music. La, La, La.

6. Nike dry-fit tank top.

7. Nike running shoe.

8. Nike running short. Also obsessed with these. I have multiple pairs.

Humm..I think this showcases my favorite color well.

Things that make me happy today:

1. Weekends at home

2. Being motivated to stay active

3. Grocery shopping
